Hi guys,

Have any of you done wind loads for an open building with a HIP roof? I have a client who wants to build a gazebo with such. I'm struggling with ASCE7-16 on trying to do this... Any help would be appreciated..

It is covered in the Australian code.

and in an earlier Canadian Code going back to the '60s...

Daveinflorida.....use Chapter 29 for "Other Structures". Since you have an open structure, be careful of lateral loading. You will likely need some significant knee braces at the beam to column connections, unless you can achieve fixity of the columns at their bases (such as embedded posts).

The windward and leeward factors on the roof will be the same as for other types of structures.

Also, I noticed your category is "Mechanical". Is this structural effort something you don't normally do?
