Greetings
What type of corrosion is this? Pitting or General corrosion or
Carbon steel Deminilarised Insulated Water Tank. This is found after removing insulation. tank 20241208_104008.jpg
Tank is near to sea .

Have you eliminated the possibility of microbiologically-induced corrosion? This seems a localized area that was attacked that would not make me think of general pitting corrosion.

It sounds like the corrosion you're referring to could potentially be pitting corrosion, which is a localized form of corrosion that causes small holes or pits in the metal surface. This type of corrosion is commonly observed in environments near the sea, where chloride ions from saltwater can accelerate the process.

In contrast, general corrosion is more uniform and typically affects a larger area of the metal surface. The fact that the tank is near the sea and that the insulation was removed makes pitting more likely because the chloride-rich atmosphere can cause localized damage.

If you're dealing with carbon steel and there's exposure to moisture and salts, pitting is a common concern. The inspection photo would help to confirm the type, but if the damage appears as small, isolated holes or pits, it's likely pitting corrosion.
