I'm working on the design of a building that will house both a dynamometer and dyntrac (4 hydraulic actuators). There is a concern that the seismic vibrations created by the dyntrac could affect the bearings on the dynamometer. I'm trying to determine what the relationship is with regard to vibration & distance.

Each piece of equipment will be housed within a pit - and each will have it's own isolated concrete inertia mass. If the two pits are within 2 feet of one another - will this be a problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
L.

If each system is on its own inertial block then I'd guess there wouldn't be too much interaction, but the coupling between them would depend on the effective dynamic properties of the building or foundation underneath, which I've never calculated, and wouldn't know where to start. You probably need to speak to a cluey civil engineer or even a soli mechanic. Alternatively if you could measure the ground vibration in the vicinity of a 4 poster rig then it would let you make a sensible calculation.

Obviously part of the answer depends on the frequencies you are running through the 4 poster - when ours is running a road simulation the entire building, and all 200 occupants, know about it.
