I am a Solidworks user and have a catia v5 file that I need to import. I have an add-in for translation of catia files, but the problem is that it is only good for v4 files. So, is it possible to save a v5 .CATpart as a v4 .model within catia v5? Please let me know if there is any other way around this problem if the conversion is not possible.
Thanks,

My question is can you save a V5 to a V4 and still be able to modify the model in V4 moreso than it being a model of imported surfaces or whatever?

I am a SW users but we have 1 seat of V5 and a customer that wants V4 models.

Thanks in advance

Short Answer: No.

But I'm incapable of giving just a short answer ;-)

Why do they need the history of the solid? Many times the methods that we use to make a solid is considered to be intellectual property. This becomes especially true as we move more and more towards Knowledgeware in V5. Providing someone your intelligent V5 Solid, complete with the Knowledge Applications that were used in creating it provides the other party with not only the final part, but with all of the Knowledge that you put into designing that part. You need to wean your customer from the expectation that they will receive all of this information unless specifically called out in the contract.

Catiajim,

I agree with you for the most part. On occasion, we have a customer that has unique needs that we make exceptions for. Our end customer wants cetain details on specific layers, decriptions with details, etc. I did not have any say with what was agreed upon, all I know is our company is paying big bucks for an outside source to give our end customer a working V4 model. Since I do not know Catia, I was checking with people in this forum to see if I am missing something.

I have emailed our internal contact about contacting the end user about "dummy" models and if that is acceptable.

I completely understand. My rant above was mostly to get people to start thinking this direction. Unfortunately, I don't think there is another solution for your situation, other than buying and training V4 in-house. You think you're forking out big bucks now ;-)
