Triple differential transmission

Hi All,

I've been reading about the triple differential steering transmission and I can't seem to work out analytically how it is able to steer in it's own length. Am I missing something here? Does anyone know of a good,published, analysis I can look at?

I've attached my analysis based on the diagram in the below linked patent.

To turn in its own length, I assume the wheels on each side need to turn at the same speed but opposite direction. The ratios shown in the patent document seem to offer +8:-1 (L:R) at maximum steer. No doubt different output velocity ratios could be achieved, but I don't think +1:-1 is possible with the layout shown. It might be possible if the final differential was a bevel gear type.

Hmm. Well that explains why I can't seem to make the math work. I'll keep poking at it. Thanks for hte feedback.
