Hi,

I am wondering if I can perform a transient state heat transfer analysis for a storage tank filled with oil? The initial temperature of the fluid is -22C and the final temperature is 5C. The wind velocity outside the tank is 14m/s(forced convection). The heating of the oil is done outside the tank.

I am interested to find out how much is the rate heat loss from the tank and the time that is required to get 5 C inside the tank.

Thanks

I'd have to think about it and understand the situation a little better, probably, but off the top of my head, you may need to know the convective heat transfer coefficient under the forced convection conditions. I'm assuming you know the temperature outside the tank...I'm not sure what you mean about "the heating of the oil is done outside the tank". You may also have to layer the structure of the tank so that you can assign different coefficients to the interior and exterior surface. Hmmm...still thinking (and rambling).
