I Would like to know, if there is a formal/conventional presentation, in displaying the results of a tolerance check on an assembly.
For instance should it be in tabular form, and if so what should the column titles be ?

I would research what publications and standards are available from ASQC. They certainly put out some standard method of presenting inspection data.

mitct,

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish and what audience you will have for your final reports. For ease of reading and to clearly show what you are doing I would recommend that you put your data into a spreadsheet application(MS Excel is my preferred choice). I would put my data in the following format:

Raw Data

Measured Value, Target Value, Lower Tolerance Limit, Upper Tolerance Limit, Percentage Deviation

If you are doing multiple assemblies you can then track the measured values over a sample group and show how this particular point varies within your sample group and if you are getting results outside of your tolerance bands.

A graph of this data is always nice to show management that your assemblies are either in process or out of process.
