Threads 1

I know that this has been asked a billion times, but, why dont threads show in solidworks when you create a hole? Where is this option to show "cosmetic threads." I have a new workstation w/ an Nvidia Quadro FX4500. I know this card is approved and is more than sufficient to display something simple like this. Its driving me nuts! I have to know whether holes are tapped or not.

What do you mean by showing threads? Do you mean showing the actual thread form geometry, or just the little cosmetic thread circle?

I am looking for some kind of display like a bmp or jpeg applied to the surface; not neccessarily the actual "cut" geometry of a thread. Inventor does this by default to show that a hole is tapped. Solidworks has to have something like this. It kinda shows it in the help index but it doesnt show you how to turn it on. There should also be an option to show these on a threaded bolt as well.

The first thing to check is whether the hole/screw has a cosmetic thread on it. It will show up in the feature tree. There's a checkbox or something on the hole wizard to have it create the cosmetic thread. This next part is a bit hazy in my memory (all my part templates are set up to show them already) but I believe you have to right-click on the Annotations folder in the feature tree and make sure cosmetic threads are shown. Then, I think, click View and make sure "All Annotations" is checked. I think that'll do it. I'll try to remember to check and post for you in the morning if you don't get it figgered out by then from my poorly-remembered steps.

That's called a Texture.

In the Feature Manager, RMB click on the Annotations folder and make sure Display Annotations is selected.

In the main toolbar select View and make sure All Annotations is selected.

If that doesn't work you may have the wrong video driver installed, or the driver was not installed properly.

RMB on the annotations folder, select "Details..." check "Shaded Cosmetic Threads"
