During my 8 or so years in offshore engineering, I have predominantly seen SACS used for modelling - topsides, jackets and subsea structures.

It has developed over time, and has a better graphical interface which imporves productivity. I have found quirks with it though, particularly with tranportation analyses and also the marine growth added weight.

What are your thoughts on SACS, how does it compare with the competition?

Looks interesting. I haven't seen it in use though. Where I am based (Aberdeen) most of the design houses tend to use FS2000 for general structural analysis, and more specialist packages as required. We use Ansys and Abaqus when we need an FE package.
