I have thought of putting a vibration detector and sim card in a bike so that it will text you when it gets stolen.
Anyone heard of such an idea?

A better idea would be a system that would go off if the bike is moved more than say 0.5 m. That way, you wouldn't get false alarms if someone else locks up to the same rack and jostles the bike.

The move detection needs improving agreed, GPS perhaps.
Remember some thieves literally lift them into the back of van so the wheels might not even move.
