Taking measurements on a smooth floor 1

I've got a smooth (reinforced) concrete floor I need to take vibration measurements on. My experience using some type of probe is: it's not particularly accurate. I almost always drive some type of (short) masonry/surveying nail and then use a magnet attachment to take measurements. However, the client I am working with has apprehension about driving permanent nails. Can you suggest a alternative to a permanent attachment where I could get reliable readings? Thanks.

Depends on the mass of the accelerometer, but beeswax, hot glue, cyano acrylate, modelling clay are all tried and true. At a pinch stick masking tape or duct tape to the surface and then any of the previous solutions. or use a laser vibrometer.

If it's an accel then bolt it to a small aluminum plate and glue the plate to the floor. I'd be concerned about any stud or screw in the concrete unless it is epoxied in. The made-for concrete screws and inserts I've used don't seem to grab very well.
 
Thanks for the suggestion Greg. With the modeling clay, are you suggesting sticking it to the floor and jabbing the probe in (maybe with some duct tape to hold the probe steady)? Just wanted to be sure I follow you here.
 
No, can you unscrew the probe from the accelerometer and use the flat base of the accelerometer (or turn it upside down and use the top)? If it wobbles it'll be no good.

Perhaps you are using something like this in which case neither suggestion is helpful!
