Hi
Can any body explain what is Sulzberger method for isolated foundation. I need to use the same in Equipment foundation. Please note that soil investigation is already done and all soil details are available.

Now, Is it right to use this method and give no rebar in foundations and only concrete capacity is used for resistance. Type of load on foundation include moments also. I am confuse if we can use 1.5 mtr deep concrete foundation without rebar please advise.

Whats are the soil details,

Size of foundation,

What are you loads, sounds like its a dynamic loading?

Hi Eirechch
Loads are as follows
1. Horizontal 509 Kgf
2. Vertical 535 kgf
3. Moment 1476 kgf

Foundation size : 1.2 mtr x 1.2 mtr x 1.5 mtr deep

Soil bearing capacity 20 ton/sqm.
Angle of internal friction is 18 deg

kgf is kilogram force?

if so 535kgf = approx 5kN.

Your loads are pretty small, I havent done any checks but I would think that a 1.2m sq by 1.5m deep mass concrete block could easily take it without reinforcment, howver I would still recommend some nominal mehs on top and bottom faces. Also, do some checks to ensure you have enough mass or size to resist the over turning and sliding forces. Bearing capacity and settlement will likely be fine

20ton/sqm = 195kPa, is this you ultimate or allowable capacity?

- what is your soil type? SAND or CLAY, with 18 deg it seems like an over consolidated CLAY

I did a quick google on Sulzberger method, couldnt find much on it. Just some docs in non english language. Seems like there is a method out there but I have no idea how good it is.
