I have a sheave like structure (bicycle wheel) made from aluminum channel. Wrapped around a 90 degree segment of the sheave is a rope with a tension of "T". The sheave has 6 spokes equally spaced. Given a particular cross section I am trying to find the maximum "T" allowable given a distributed load across the span of two spokes (due to the tension). I first tried Rork's cases for a curved member but get unusually low numbers (I have already run destructive tests and am now trying to mathematically model). Next I assumed a straight beam fixed at both ends and got numbers reasonably close, but I want a more precise method. Any Suggestions?
