I have an application where I use both fusion welding and resistance, spot, welding. We have always avoided spot welding over a fusion seam but an inspector has rejected a part because a spot weld is missing in a location over a fusion weld. I informed him that we don't spot over a fusion and he asked "Why not?". I have looked through some general weld specs and have not found anything to support my position. Does anyone know of an AWS spec or something that will say that it is not good practice to spot weld over an existing fusion weld?
Thanks
