SS Pipe to SS Support Steel

Hi All,
I just wanted to solicit views from the group regarding the supporting of SS Pipe directly onto SS supporting steelwork. Pipework is subject to temperature variation (low) and seismic loads. Any concerns by anyone?

SS pipe on an SS support is not a problem fundamentally. Supports will be expensive though. Since SS pipe is commonly thin wall, you might want to consider a doubler plate or a shoe of some kind.

Low temperatures should not be a problem but you may get a problem with high temperatures if there is direct contact and the SS support is a low grade material.

Thanks for the response C2it. Any thoughts about point contact between pipe and support, movement and "galling/self welding"?

Galling is a phenomena associated with the rubbing motion of two metals with nearly the same hardness. In my experience, it has always been found in SS bolting/fastening applications.

Commonly, galling is a concern only with threaded joints.

Unless your piping is going to constantly move horizontally relative to the supporting member, I do not see this as a problem.

The pipework is subject to thermal movement (relatively small magnitude) but 3-4 cycles per day. Any comments?
