Hello All,
I came across a practice where the mechanical seal leak was tried to stop by increasing the spring tension.
1. There is a minor mechanical seal leak (Mechanical seal practically should have zero leak)
2. Maintenance crew inserted back the seal setting plate and with the help of filler gauge on both sides increased the spring compression and grubbed back the drive collar.
Pump details
Submersible lube oil pump
Plan - 11
Spring on rotating side
Both rotating and static face: Silicon carbide
I have my concern over this practice, kindly let me know is it common and if it is not recommended practice is there any standard to back this up.
Many thanks
