SolidWorks 2007 Service Pack 4.0 is now available for download (final release version). Seemed to have corrected poor performance with larger assembly drawings. Will confirm with released SP.

Finally!

If anyone has a problem installing SW Explorer SP4, and receives a "internal Error 2756.SHORTCUTPATH" error, apparently it is a known issue. The fix is to uninstall SW Explorer and install the already downloaded update manually.

[cheers]

CBL,
Shouldn't SW fix this before releasing the final version? Or did you notice this in the final version...?

I noticed it in the final version. I didn't get around to installing it but assumed it wasn't in the EV.

[cheers]

I did not notice this is in EV, but did notice it in the released SP 4. Seems like SolidWorks should fix this and post 4.1.

Pete

Can't they pull back SP 4.0 release and fix it and re-release? It's so new they should be able to do this no...?

The following is the response I received from my VAR.

This is a known issue that we have discovered with the release of SP4, and Solidworks is now also aware of this problem.

Solidworks is currently working on resolving the issue, and releasing a new fix, but in the meantime, you can get around this problem by simply uninstalling Solidworks Explorer, and then re-installing SW Explorer SP4.

This problem does not exist for a fresh, new install of Solidworks Explorer. The SP4 download of SW Explorer is the full version of the product.

[cheers]

Not a good idea to pull a release and then release it as the same number later with differences in the code. Who knows if it won't exhibit other problems. Would be much cleaner for SolidWorks to do it as SP 4.1, IMO. Would be like releasing two drawing versions that are different and calling them the same revision.

Pete

CBL,

This problem that you found has actually been out since SP3.1 and the only fix is the uninstall and reinstall explorer. IF they are still investigating it they can't fix it then.

I didn't know it was in 3.1 also. I didn't have a problem with that SP. It's not a big deal, just annoying, and considering the problems they are having with the 08 Beta download/install, I don't expect a fix anytime soon.

Guys and Gals,
I went to download SP 4.0 and said that it's released for standalone licenses. Our licenses are located on the on the network. Will I be ok?

This is the note off the SW site:

"SolidWorks 2007 SP4 is now released and all customers with standalone licenses around the world will be required to activative after installation."

Read it again... It says "SolidWorks 2007 SP4 is now released (pause interjected here).... and all customers with standalone licenses around the world will be required to activative after installation." Really its 2 statements. The software is released... and standalone licenses will require activation. We have SNL (SolidWorks Network Licenses) and had no problem installing, other than the SolidWorks Explorer issue...

Thanks pdybeck. This is where commas come in handy.
