Some 2007 enhancements

*Balloons now link to any attribute, not just part numbers.

*Leaders automatically provide full datum information

*Chamfers and fillets are automatically noted in leaders, and double leaders can be created.

*Tell Swift where the critical tolerance, the other tolerances are adjusted automatically.

*The minimum and maximum tolerances are shown graphically.

*Optimization in COSMOS Express...

*A goal like "minimum factor of safety" is calcualted automatically.

*SWIFT automatically fillets the entire model at once. *FeatuerExpert applies part lines automatically.

Some I'm not sure about, like "Unfolding automatically displays the bend lines" for sheetmetal.....doesn't it already do that?

The multiple leaders for Radius and Chamfer dimensions will be big. As will the edge flange on curved edges. I see people asking how do these all the time.

What I found the most interesting was a little snippet from the Day 2 blog;

Met with Kubotek who showed me their new Realyze software. It is one step beyond a translator: it translates 3D models, heals them, and -- here is the added bonus -- allows you to edit the model, before it gets imported into SolidWorks. It reads models from CATIA, STEP, IGES, and others. ....... Secret news: in a couple months Realyze will work inside SolidWorks.

I was listening to a webcast and they mentioned something new in 2007 that caught my attention. It's called "power assist" which is bascially the ability to place Datums and GD&T on at the part and assembly level. For example, if the front plane is the parts datum [-A-] then you can assign it. Then you can add a feature control frame to a hole pattern in the model and it shows up in the drawing....I'm sure it goes the other way. I'm assumming this is one step forward to a paperless design. I know of a few machine shops that handle this type of data. For those of you regulars here know that I also use Pro/E....NOT TO BASH SWx...but I've been using this feature in Pro/E since 2000i^2 and it's powerful because you don't need the drawing to actually understand design intent through tolerance schemes because it's all embedded in the model. I'm looking forward to seeing this functionality

According to Chris Garcia it takes 3D annotation into the drawing views. Since I'm not using 2006 yet I can't comment of 3D Annotation.

I wonder how this differs from the 3d Annotation Views added to 2006. Under the Annotations folder in the model tree, you can create "Views" for the dimensions, GDT, etc. to follow. They control text orientation so that the text aligns with the plane it's in and also control visibility. So if you have Annotations Views enable, the text only shows for the view that is active. I thought this was added to comply with the new Ansi 3d model Standards.

This annotations views can be then inserted into the drawing.

So I wonder what's different. Maybe something with the tolerance analysis?
