sol 700, deactive shell element

Hello,
I need to deactive some shell elemets in an impact simulation when a critical value of strain or stress is achived.

In particularl I used card MATM for a PFA of a plate in coposite material in qrg is written thet it have to be activate the DEACT flag for the plys to deactive the element, but what is this flag???

Obviously every method to delete the elements is appreciate.
