Soil Boring Logs

I'm a structural engineer by trade, so this may be a simple question.

In trying to interpret bore logs on a project, I see acronyms like "brown cmf sand" "brown mf sand" "trace f gravel" etc.

What do these acronyms refer to? Is there a standard they relate to?

I guess ,

-CMF sand refers to brown coarse, medium, and fine grained sand
- MF sand refers to medium and fine-grained brown sand
- Trace f gravel, trace amount of fine gravel

Have you inquired of the geotechnical engineer? There are many firms that use their own system of abbreviations. It's worth a phone call. The guide may be included in the report, and you just haven't located it.
