I want to add an "Identification Symbol" (aka Balloon) to a drawing without the need for a parts list.

The thread linked below suggests this is quite complex but hints at the possibility of a link with Teamcentre.

Would anyone know if there is a way to recall the item number (or "Find No.") from Teamcentre?

With my most optimistic hat on I'm wondering whether you might be able to type something like <@....Find_No> into the text field and it populates the appropriate Teamcentre info. I'm sure that's way too simple though!

Any help appreciated.

It should be pretty simple , ... but,
you still , to my knowledge, need a partslist.

In NX , the "engine" for the update and sync of ID symbols is a partslist, even if you run under Teamcenter.
but then normally the partslist is a slave to the TC Bom. ( default the partslist update the attribute "callout" and Callout in turn is synchronized to TC Find No.)

The trick is to create a partslist and thereby have the id symbols update, and then in some way hide the partslist.

Do you still use NX 7.5 as per your signature line? If so, you may want to try this journal. The author of the code is Ian Eldred; I've not tried the code myself (as I'm on NX 9), but it sounds like it may do what you want. Bear in mind that due to changes in NX 8 and higher, the code may not work as expected in versions other than NX 7.5.

Thanks both.
I like that ... "It should be pretty simple , ... but,".
I'll have a look at the journal although not delved into the journal world much so am a little fearful of breaking something!

Yes we are on NX7.5 but soon to jump to NX10.
No doubt this issue is resolved in NX10!!! ;-)

I mean, it IS Simple, all you have to do is to add a partslist to your drawing. Nothing more.
Of course the parts list must once be setup as to your requirements, but that's a one time job.
We have different parts list templates in a specific "palette" in the "resource bar", then it's drag-drop from there to the drawing. Done.
( One can place the partslist outside the drawing, then it will not be plotted.)
