shell elements big or small?!!

hi
when i want to have a foundation with 10m2 area and square shap
how can i choose the size of shell elements?
in the using graphic results for design which one should be consider : moments with averaging all joints or non averaging?

regarding the first part of ur question...i guess having the shell element dimension 0.5m*0.5m will give u what u want..but i'm not quite sure that i understood the second part...but anyway if u mean the design moment...u don have to use the maximum value cos it's not true u might use the moment value measured 0.5m approx. awayfrom the centerline
may that would be what u want

about second part of my qs:
in display force/stress shell elements menu we have 3 choice;
stress averaging:
-none
-all joints
-selected joints
for example "none" deliver the max value of moments rather than other choices in the same elements.
but which on is veritable and usable for design?
consider that we always see moments in output text file according to
"none averaging " case.

I think the option of "averaging" means that the program will average the force/stress of adjacent elements which will be shown in the force/stress graph.It's just a display option and will not affect the final result of your analysis. Considering the continuity of the structure,choosing the "averaging for all jints " option is more proper ,but it's just for display.
That's an individual view.
