Hey all,
Is it required to calculate the rupture of the net section in a Z-Purlin if the load is perpendicular to the flanges (bolt holes in web)? I don't believe it is as the web and flange would have to fail for the section to rupture. If I remember correctly from school shear lag needs to be calculated for forces parallel to the flanges. However, if it is required where can you find the information on how to do so for a Z-shape? I couldn't find any place in the AISI Standard that specifically called out an equation for shear lag for a Z-shape. Thanks!
