Yes, there is no need to install ST2 on the server. It can all be done from the client.
Choose a client machine that will admminister the standard parts. Then install the Standard Parts Server and Machinery Library applications onto the client. During the installation of both, you can direct the Parts Libraries to install to a location that is different to the standard 'C:\Solid Edge Standard Parts' here you can select some mapped network drive that is on the server instead.
This way the application ends up on the client machine but the parts and database end up on the server. the rest of the setup is identical when it comes to building the db etc.
Once setup you can direct other client machines to the StandardPart.SAC file on the server and they can make use of them too.

To direct the clients to the server you need to access Solid Edge options on each one. Then in the File Locations section, define the location of the 'Standard Parts SAC file'. It is called 'SMAPINIFile.sac' and will be in the top level standard parts folder on the server.
Yes you should have a database file on the server. The one of your local machine is probably left over from a previous install.
The folder you directed the standard parts to on the server should have the following folders - Database, HTML, Standard Parts, Working Folder.

ok good, I copied over the database and working directories as they were not on the server. I linked the SAC file but should the managed standard parts path have a value in the file options? As its blank and the parts don't seem to be showing! Is there anything else that needs linking?
I imputed the correct paths for everything using the wizard which created my SAC file!
The managed standard parts location is only defined or used when you are running something like Teamcenter or Insight data management. You are OK with it blank.

ok thanks! What is the best way to check the libraries have been loaded? I apologise as I've never installed this before, so its all new, and my users are still learning the package.
No problem, If you run the Standard Parts Administrator on the client you used for the setup you can browse through the different categories. Any that have installed parts will display the part names in the main window when a standard is selected in the tree.
You can also run the register parts command from here. (you should have done this already to add the parts to the DB in the first place). If you go with the default method of using the Standard part installation database. Then the next dialogue will show you whats installed too.
You can also run the standard parts dialogue from within a Solid Edge assembly. You will find it on the parts library tab.
