rslinx opc excel

I have rslinx pro running on one pc. On another pc i have a excel spreedsheet that i would like to get data from the plc 500 in the field.
I know that the cell in excel needs =application|topic!item
if i am on that pc . So if i am on the computer without rslinx on it would it be
= \\OtherComputerName\rslinx|topic!item in the excel cell area?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

You sould be able to access the spreadsheet over your network on any PC without changing anything. As long as the RSLinx PC is on the same network. We do this with our InSql data, which should be any different than getting the data directly from the PLC.

You will need RSLinx gateway (not Pro). It has a feature to support remote OPC clients.
