Hi Folks:

I am looking for a high strength, quick curing, non conductive potting epoxy.

The application involves filling a void that exists when a metal hollow cylindrical tube is placed concentrically over medium voltage cable. The void ends up needing about 250 ml of fluid.

Ideally, the epoxy should be able to be applied using a caulking gun and should be able to cure within 10 minutes with the application of ~100-150F heat. Again, in an ideal world, it will not be very brittle upon curing (not terribly important).

From what I've seen, the kinetics of Snap-curing adhesives cannot be mixed in batches larger than 5 grams usually, because a runaway exothermic reaction is common.

You guys know of anything out there???

Thanks,

There are 90 sec epoxies available in a syringe with a static mixer. I've used the 50 ml. syringes. There is some exotherm but I believe that anything that fast curing will be designed to not have dangerous exotherm.

Is this applied to the outer sheath of the cable with an earthed metallic screen, or to an unscreened cable or an inner insulation layer? If either of the latter two apply and the voltage on the conductor is greater than about 5kV then bear in mind that any voiding or de-bonding which occurs over time between the cable and the epoxy will lead to partial discharge. PD is the scourge of all polymer insulation types and is highly destructive.

I think I'd be looking for something a little more compliant like a pourable silicone, although silicones bring their own set of problems.
