Hi, all

I have question on the cable force. I first applied a negative temperature on the cables to produce post -tension stress in cable. The cable is along a simple supported beam. They have same property. Once the model runned, the cable force will change to different values. The one close to mid span reduced most force. I guess it is because the mid span has biggest deflection so the cable will sag most in that area. But since this is a static analysis, how SAP determine the stress after the cable length shortened? ANybody know how SAP determine the force in cable suring static analysis?

Thanx to all replies

I'm not sure what version of SAP you're working with, but as of version 9 you can define post tension stress using loads and/or an actual cable tendon element. I am a bit confused as to why you defined your cable element using the same section property as your simply supported beam.
