I am a HVAC Eng., but now I am navigating unknown waters, hope if somebody could help me with this. I have to size the intake and outfall pipes for a desalination plant. Intake pipe will bring in 55 mgd of sea water to the plant, pipe entrance will be located at 1 mile off shoreline and 50 feet below sea surface. Outfall pipe will carry 30 mgd and pipe diffuser will be 1.5 miles and 100 feet below sea surface, client wants to make directional drilling to place PVC pipes under the sea bed. I need to know a design fluid velocity for this application and friction coefficients to use, also client wants to use relatively small pipes to save in drilling cost regardless of operating cost. Has anybody any suggestion?
Thanks
