Pocket in Flare Header 1

Hi,
Flare header and disposal system and particularly flare header,API 521 say disposal system should be self draining toward the discharge end and slop in header 2mm/m. I'm facing problem with road crossing. even i go on elevated platform or under ground i will have pocket. can any one advise on this issue.

Without knowing the layout or any other details of your system, in basic terms you can either:
Move the road (down or re-route)
Have a height limit on the roadway (not normally a good idea) to allow your pipe to fall as normal
Move the pipe inlet point upwards
Introduce an intermediate knock out drum upstream of the road crossing then elevate your pipe from that to get over the road and then have another KO drum at the flare.

If this is a retrofit then your options are limited, but it is why you don't normally run a flare header over a road....

Not enough information, however there are always options.
Option #1 - Reroute the road (low cost)
Option #2 - Add a Knock Out Drum (with a Boot and slops transfer pump) on the upstream side of the road then start a new slop high enough to pass over the road (high cost)
Option #3 - Go back to the start of the Flare Header and raise the start elevation of the header and all the connecting lines enough so the Flare Header will pass over the road when it reaches that point (high cost)

In a large facility with a long flare header, this is a pretty common problem. The typical, and most practical, solution is to simple install another knock-out drum. There's always a KO drum at the base of the flare, and in many facilities that's the only one needed. But, when line pockets are unavoidable, like your case, additional KO drums are needed. That's not a big deal.
