There really is nothing out there on this. does have a plant you can download but because SW doesn't support 3DS or LWO files the information you will find on the web is very limited. You might be able to find a tree in 3D DXF format which SW 2006 can open. Good luck.

Thanks rockguy. I've found a couple of trees in 3D DXF format, but I've got SW 2005 (I Think) they keep opening up in Auto Cad is there anyway of getting them across to solidworks? Thanks.

Change the file association so that dxf is opened by SW.

Thanks very much for the advice.

CorBlimeyLimey, I'm not too great on the computer, do you think you could quickly explain how to change the file association? and ctopher thanks I'll take a look at the sight.

Right button click on the file, then select Open with, then select SolidWorks. If it's not listed you will have to browse for the SolidWorks ".exe" file.

Thanks again CorBlimeyLimey!

I just had a go at opening them with solid works and it said the filename entered was invalid, not found, locked or of a incompatible type? i've actually got SW2004 could that be the problem?

I'm in the process of opening one with SW06 to see how it works. If it goes ok, I can convert it to iges or something and send it to you.

That would be brilliant. Thanks.

It crashed my solidworks the first time. I'll try again during lunch.

It finally converted over and opened, but it's a pretty good size assembly. I've never opened a 3d DXF before so I was surprised that it broke it into 54 parts.

It's around 28m total size in a zip file now. If you want it, I'll try to send it to you, but I don't have any webspace to upload it to and my email doesn't like files that large, so you'll have to help me find a way to get it to you.

And to make things worse, it's a potted plant instead of a tree...

Hi miller7778, I'm not so good with computers so I don't really know any other ways? do you have any suggestions? If not, not to worry I'm going to try and get myself a copy of SW2006. Thanks for your help though. If you were looking for some other trees there was a link off ctophers site at the top with lead to a site called continuum, which had some good ones!
