Hello,

Is it mandatory in the US to place labels to ID service & flow on pipes in Polyethylene plants?

IMO, the piping system identification is one of the OSHA requirement, and may be adapted by the Plant Owner.

It is nearly impossible to write Haz Ops without labeled piping.

There isn't even a uniform system, each standards organization has their own labeling code.

Don’t forget OSHA’s general duty clause. Even if there is no specific law, if an incident occurs in such a way that a lack of clear labeling contributed to the incident, it will be held against you under the general duty clause.

As mentioned above, it is foolish NOT to clearly (paint for example) label each system's piping and every valve operator.

Training, repair, maintenance and shutdown work (by contractors and scaffolders and millwrights and pipefitters and other outsiders to the plant!). Startup, shutdown, adjustments, are ALL more reliable when the systems are clearly defined.
