Am a registered PE, having worked in municipal and utility projects for several years after other years in the trenches as a drafter, technician, etc. My degree is not CE, and though I have most of the science and math I need, I would like to fill the gaps left by lack of formal training. I am interested in studying outside of a school, i.e. online. Are there any online CE degree courses (or even intensive CE training that will not result in a degree) that you have experience with?

What type of work do you want to train for? Civil/Environmental is very broad.

Jason,
I should have been clearer. I have never taken most of the basic CE coursework from strength of materials on up. I have skimmed all the headers in this thread for related discussions and have come up with a list of distance learning CE programs, as well as a Virginia company that has dozens of titles of CEU courses for engineers, which might provide some the remedial material I need to study. The schools I am investigating so far are Universities of Idaho, ND, Georgia, and Anchorage-Alaska. The CEU courses are offered by PDH.

I did complete a PPI review course in preparation for the PE. I found that it was enough to get by, but felt the need to go back to basics: foundation remediation, if you will. Degreed engineers are probably shaking their heads by this time, and I won't even mention my age. I've seen engineers referred to as washed up at 38 in this forum, so I don't expect to be hired by them. I'm just trying to do the best with what I have now.

Look into Northern Arizona University. They have some impressive online courses in Civil (especially structural)
How did you get past the PE application process if you (your own admission) don't have the academic background?

Dave:

Per California rules, I had:
1. Certain number of years of "responsible" engineering experience as defined in the regs.
2. EIT
3. References
4. PE Exam (including mandatory surveying and seismic sections)
