I would like to know how to properly call out a NS external thread (shaft) for a bearing locknut. The locknuts are common (N-05 at most suppliers) and the thread O.D. is .969 with 32 tpi. I have found different manufacturers with slightly different tolerances but most seem to be Class B. Some call this same thread 25mmx32 having the same O.D.
This is a replacement shaft for a north american machine.
I am used to calling out standard fractional threads, but in this case do i use decimals? and tolerance?
can someone point me to a definative chart pls.
ps ive look in my machinerys handbook and can't find an NS spec chart

thanx

First off look here......
then with tolerances (high low limits) add Major Dia., pitch dia., minor dia., threads per inch, and possibly the locknut number....

However know your customer, in your case simply
.969-32 might be enough or they may want all the above.
