I am developing a new composite that will use a naturally occuring polymer as the reinforcing component and a synthetic thermoset plastic as the stabilizing component. In trying to accomplish a covalent bond between the two, on the outer layers of molecules of the naturally occuring polymer, I have been unsuccessful. I think that saturation is the major factor and am looking for a resin that will not completely saturate silk fiber and establish a covalent bond. Complete saturation is going to nullify the inherent tensile properties of the silk fiber and that is what I am trying to avoid. I like doing my own research but any help is appreciated. I have posted a similar question in the composites forum.
