Good morning all. Does anyone know if there is a referenced minimum modulus of elasticity to use for mircolam header/drag struts? I have searched the web quite a bit and haven't been able to come up with anything.

The reason I need this value is that I have a header that supports the floor above, but also needs to transfer axial load in a shear wall. So basically I need to quantify the amount of axial capacity the header has so I can check the interaction equation to verify that the header works in both bending and compression.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you mean Microllam LVL I suggest that you call Weyerhaeuser iLevel at 1-888-453-8358. Some of the engineered lumber has different E values for bending and compression. You might want to use a Parallam PSL.
The iLevel tech support has been very helpful.

Thank you much! You're right about the tech support being incredibly helpful!

Also, be aware the are numerous manufacturers of laminated veneer lumber (LVL). Microlam in the trade name of the Weyerhauser product. Before using their values try to verify it is their product.
