Milk vs. OJ Plastic bottles

Can any one explain the difference in crushing resistance or toughness between the two types of bottles for the referenced beverage. I believe the P.E. is used for both bottles.

In the USA, most orange juice uses PET bottles. Milk jugs use HDPE. PET is much higher in strength and stiffness than HDPE, which would account for most of the performance difference during crushing. Toughness refers to resistance to crack propagation, and should not influence the results during crushing.

Thanks for the difference in types of plastics used for the two products.
When I referred to the word toughness, it was not meant to be in the engineering sense, just that it was harder to crush.

I've seen orange juice in a variety of bottles, including the 1-gallon milk bottles, as well a relatively hard, transparent, gallon bottle, like the ones Welch's grape juice come in.
