This is the sort of stupidity that allows me to pay my son's college tuition (he's smarter than I...he's majoring in something besides engineering!!). Geez...I love forensics.

I worked with a guy who's meat and potatoes was evaluating and fixing McD (and other fast food restaurant) wood trusses. There is no doubt that speed and low price result in long term problems if the designers and builders aren't really sharp. Also, plate connected wood trusses are designed to "just barely" survive code-level loads, and the plate connections are vulnerable to the slightest deviation in max load, heat exposure, etc.
