I am curious if an MCC must be located in a special room or if any location on a wall is acceptable. I have seen them in various location in various facilities. I can't seem to find anything in the NEC that dictates the equipment be in a special room, but thought I would ask here to see if anyone knows of any "rule" that dictates MCC placement.

Thanks,
Doug

No rules apply other than common sense. Ideal MCC placement is close to loads but in an area protected from physical damage. The other consideration is ambient thermal conditions and contaminants. Heat, dirt, moisture, and airborne chemicals can shorten life and promote faults/failures. If you have poor ambient conditions a climate controlled room might be prudent or a NEMA type 12 enclosure might meet the need at a much lower cost. You must weigh the costs vs. performance requirements.

Care to give an brief overview of NEC 110-26 restrictions?

110-26 requires dedicated space in front of and above the equipment. You should really buy a copy of the NEC if you need more detail than that.
