material for collets

hi,

can anyone tell me what material is used to make collets? if there is more then one option its even better

its probably a spring steel, but in searching 65MN comes up alot, this is probably the majority.
 
You can use a variety of materials, depending upon the intended application. Case carburized, hardened and tempered AISI 8620 is a fairly common steel used for manufacturing collets. Spring steel grades such as AISI 6150 are also commonly used for manufacturing collets. I have even made them out of aluminum for certain applications with success.
