Mass Flow Measurement

Why did the GE mass flow meter fail to gain acceptance in the measurement of products such as ethane? It was a meter that sensed angular momentum through a fixed set of vanes and a rototating set. The recording index was driven by a gyroscope rotatating in a plane determined by the amount of torque caused by the angular momentum set by the rotating ones.Tourque was magnetically linked to the outside world. It was a great piece of equipment that tracked closely with high quality volumetric measuring devices.

The corolis meter has the same problem. The reason I've come across is calibration or proving of the meter. What can you take to the field and prove it is working and metering correctly. We finally developed a method of using compact provers and pycnometers to prove the corolis meters in a mixed HC stream. Pur ethane is a problem because depending on conditions, the density is low and the error in measuring density to prove is high.
