Line color when importing Autocad files 1

Can anyone tell me how to properly import an Autocad file and change the line color scheme. I'm tired of seeing imported yellow lines and pastels.

Edit the seacad.ini file. When you select File - Open on a DXF or DWG file, select the Options button at the bottom of the Open File dialog box.

This opens a wizard that guides you through most of the options available in the seacad.ini file. Once you make the necessary changes and save your version of seacad.ini, it can be used again and again with new AutoCAD to Solid Edge conversions.

If you're brave, you can also directly edit the file with a text editor such as Notepad.

hi Wicsteve;

when you open the dxf file;
on the bottom of the open dialog you will see an option Button
click it you are now Using the Autocad wizard

now select the Proper option and Click next->

now here you can select the Sheet setup here and then Click next->

now here you can set the line types-> and then click next->

now here you can set the color width etc n the bootom
you will see the Check box: Translate the display colors in autoCad to Solid Edge Draft

uncheck that option and the Click next

Then save the Seacad.ini file to the required Location
and then click finish and open the file :

Now I'm not certain that others are seeing the same color scheme that I'm seeing.

I know about the check box to translate colors and I certainly agree that it seem to take care of converting most line colors to black. However, dimensions, notes, text, etc. are light blue and some lines still seem to remain in yellows or pinks. I suspect that these items are on different layers and the color scheme is useful on a black background.

I know that I can print in black and I know how to change the color on a single item (properties command) once the drawing is converted to a dft file. I've tried to change the color of a layer but that doesn't seem to work or I don't know how to do that.

Is there a way to change the entire layer color to black (or other single color) or to convert all dimensions and line colors to black after the drawing resides in a dft file?

Still need help. Thanks to those who answered my quests. I appreciate it.

With only the Select Tool active, try the SmartSelect icon (arrow w/ lightning bolt) on the Ribbon Bar.

This allows you to select one element and find all similar elements or the same type, those residing on the same layer, the same color, etc.

You can then use Edit - Properties to change multiple entities at once.

Thanks Kenvin. The smaart select works like a dream. I didn't even know that it was there. Guess I need to spend a little more time experimenting with the software.
