My NX CAD software is running on a Dell Precision T5500. I'm running NX 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 and 9.0 on this machine. I also own a Dell M4600 Precision Laptop. I need to be able to run at least NX8.5 on this laptop while I'm traveling. I already installed the LMTOOL and NX8.5 base and docs on the laptop. I now need to "borrow” the license to the laptop and need help with this...Or is there another option? Can I use an emergency license? Or should I use the NX9.0 Licensing tools on the laptop? Does anyone have any insight to this?....Thanks.

Please contact GTAC and they should be able to help you get properly set-up so that you can 'borrow' licenses for your laptop from the main NX license server.

Thanks John...I'm traveling tomorrow, so due to time constraints my VAR set me up with an emergency license for now, but we did get the ball rolling on acquiring a license file that allows 'borrowing' for next time....but ya know...I will be in the Cypress area...maybe I can just stop in the office and you guys can set me up....ha

When are you going to be in the Cypress area?

If you're free this Thursday (April 17th) for lunch and you're near our office, give me a call (contact me by email by adding a couple of periods in my ID where it makes sense and add the logical 'siemens' address and I'll forward you my phones numbers). I'm out of town all of next week, in the UP of Michigan where I KNOW it's snowing as we type (I just checked some webcams) and probably will be next week as well.

A closing comment on this thread,
To be able to borrow a NX license, your license file must have the "borrow feature", ( which not all license files has.) This feature is to my knowledge free but must exist in the license file.
NX 3(?) - NX8.5 : ( I assume that borrowing was added in NX3) NX 9 the dialog is different, i have yet no experience of how it works but it should be similar.

If the borrowing feature exists , in the Start - programs - Siemens NX x.x - NX Licensing tools - license options : there is a tab named "borrowing" , If the feature doesn't exist in the license file , there is no such tab.

When borrowing, have the borrowing computer connected to the network such that you can run NX.
Start the NX license options ,select the borrowing tab, set return date, select what licenses to borrow, press the "borrow licenses button".
Note that while this license is borrowed, it is not available for other users on the same license server. If you are multiple users on the same license server and one user is about to travel, do not borrow unique licenses unless there is a need for it during travel.

Restart the laptop that is going to travel , disconnect the network ( and wireless) , Start NX and verify that it runs as expected. ( try the different options

If you return early from traveling there is an option to return borrowed licenses ( in the same tab/ dialog) Else the borrowed licenses will be locked to that laptop until the borrowing period expires.

Regards,
Tomas
