Landscape Barriers for Noise Control 2

I've got a situation where a church currently has a road about 85' from them.....but it's getting moved to about 32' from them. (That distance is from the edge of where the rubber meets the road to the closest part of the church.)

They are concerned about the resulting noise......and I have suggested some type acoustic panel to address the issue. Only problem is: the new highway will include a number of right-of-ways (including the gas company) that will not allow such panels to be placed.

My next thought then was maybe some kind of landscaping. But I'm not sure what the acoustic effects a bush has. Can anyone suggest something? (Or perhaps is aware of a acoustic study involving landscaping.) This is unfamiliar territory for me (as I do primarily industrial work).

Pretty close to 0 dB! I doubt very much that you will find any vegetation that would provide 4 to 7 dB (rough estimate of distance reduction and whether line or point source) to get back to original sound levels. This should be based on real data and not speculation. Either consider an ugly barrier wall with appropriate removable panel or door for the gas company access or spend the money on building noise control. You need a noise control engineer.

Nope.

I suspect the better choice would be modifications to the church exterior and/or interior to reduce noise intrusion.
