hi i am trying to find out what materials will wet well to kovar. my application is to bond kovar to tungsten carbide, so i have to find a thin film that will wet to both materials. i have found that Silvaloy ("High Silver" compositions) wet to WC around 600 - 700 C, but have no idea if it will also wet to kovar. do have any recommendations or advice for me? i appreciate all the help you can give. thanks.

Kovar is an alloy of Fe-29%Ni-5%Co. It was initially developed as an electrically conducting material which could be bonded to glass.

These days it is often used as a leadframe for semiconducting microcircuits. Most anything that might be used to connect the pads on the microcircuit to the leadframe (e.g., high gold or high silver alloy) would likely work in your application.

(I hope you recognize that your "carbide" is actually grains of WC cemented together by metallic cobalt.)
