I apologize up front if my vocabulary is incorrect, I am not a tech, just a dept manager trying to get my designers and drafters equipment to work with Inventor 10. 5+ crashes per day is rediculous in my mind.

OK, I searched, read the few posts my query pulled out and came up empty. Here's the issue:
Newer pc's,
sufficient RAM,
current video drivers, and
using Intel's 82865G or 82915G/GV/910GL card

We have rebooted, re-installed and rebooted again. No joy.

where do I turn for help?

Probably the most important thing for R10 is video cards. Check the certified list and make sure your cards are up to the task. The video driver is actually probably more important. The autodesk site will show you the "prefered" driver version for your cards. NOTE the newest driver is not neccessarily the best for the job. I believe you can get to the site from the help pull down menu in Inventor.

When you update the drivers and if you re-installed IV you should make sure the windows registry is clean.

USUALLY insufficient RAM won't crash the machine as much as grinding everything into SLOW motion. 512MB is the low end of the scale, and it really depends on the size and complexity of your assemblies.

Something many people overlook: have you opened the machine and taken a vacuum after all the dust? is the cooling fan running properly? IV can put a heavy load on the computer and overheated components behave badly

How long has it been since you re-installed the OS? Many people swear by a repartition and re-install of windows on a yearly basis, but it really depends on your maintenance regiment, the other software present, and your internet surfing habits.

Do you have all the service packs installed? They are up to R10 SP3 now....and with Windows XP SP2 minimum.

You can also search the Autodesk Inventor discussion group for lots more info on the topic, or visit for more discussion.

if these are the integrated intel graphics cards/chipsets
you will have a terrible time getting inventor stable

i have one workstation that took the better part of a week to get right

seven inventor reinstalls , two os installs and seventeen different drivers

i would have been better off just buying a better graphics card

which is what i did

nvidia quadro with 128 mb of ram

spend the time or the money your choice

Also, remember to turn off your antivirus software during install too.

It doesn't always make a difference...but it doesn't hurt, and at this point I'm sure you would try anything.
