I would like some help with this. My project is to interface the computer keyboard to the at89c2051 microcontroller(or any other MC) in order to capture 12 different key strokes from the user which then activates 12 separate telephone lines.
I am using chiplab to program the MC, but I would like to know how i can go about programming the MC to do read the inputs and give me an output to activate a certain line.

select a keyboard which is easy to interface.

I have already selected the keyboard and done some testing to clarify the binaries for the 12 keys using the digital osciloscope.

If you need further help, tell us the specs of the keyboard.

PS/2 Standard Keyboard

Electrical Operating voltage: + 5VDC ± 5%
Power consumption: 50-mA maximum (with three LEDs ON)
System interface: PS/2 6-pin mini din connector
ESD: CE level 4, 15-kV air discharge

Hi, PS2 is 1 of the hardest keyboards to interface, you need a really good reason to want to use it.

the 90s2313 is pretty easy to interface with a ps/2 keyboard. I had to build several for use in manufacturing. Ah the joys of working in a keyboard factory :)

I can send you PADS schematic and C program if interested.
