I just graduated and doesn't have much practical experience. I have been given a job where I am supposed to monitor the settlement and pore water pressure while fill is being placed on the top of these sensors. I need to install the settlement sensor and piezometer at a certain depth and then fill be placed in layers over these instruments. Can anyone give me idea about how to install these instruments?

This fill actually be acting as preload and would be removed I think after some time. The soil conditions below this fill are Silty Sands and Clayey Silts.

Thanks in advance
Kapil

You may want to look at or Geokon in an American firm that has good vibrating wire equipment for both pore pressure monitoring and settlement monitoring. Geonor is a broad-based Norwegian firm with offices world wide. Their websites give basic information on installation proceedures or their tech reps can forward hard copy documentation. I have worked with both company's products on dams and mass grading surcharge applications. Their technical reps are very helpful in designing equipment for particular applications.
