Importing IFC Files 1

Does anybody know how to import IFC files into Inventor?

OK, I now know a bit more about IFC because I just did research to find information that YOU should have supplied. But supply more information and you might get a better answer.
To answer your question directly, in the same manner you asked, yes I now know how.

Can you convert the file?

I will no doubt be able to import the ifc file that I have, right into Inventor.
The file I wish to import has been produced by a building cad program called Tekla. I require the 3D model information so I can mate other structural elements to this model.

Do your own leg work and contact your supplier to get a better format that can be read into Inventor, which the program can export. They should know better than to supply incompatible native formats.. should always be neutral when working with 'minority' programs.

His question was perfect/plain and simple. Your responses were rather poor/unprofessional. Maybe try a little more coffee in the morning before you come on these boards.

I don't know the answer because I am not familiar with the IFC format either.. So I didn't post...

Forums are really simple things.. People ask questions and those that know the answer post answers. If you can't understand the question then take a little bit of your own time to do some research if you want. If you stumble across an answer then please post your findings. But please come down from your high horse first.
If you feel confident that you can answer the question but need some additional information then by all means please post a response asking for additional information. But do so in a professional manner on a professional forum like this. But as I already stated his question was plain and simple with no additional information required.

Don't forget mcgyvr you are reading the edited versions of all the replies. He didn't meet the standard posting guidelines and didn't research before he posted (the number 1 point in the guideline). He didn't state what release he is using, etc.

I did answer his question in my first reply, I wasn't sarcastic and it was a lot more professional than his reply. I have received far worse replies from people on the 'round table' of this forum so I didn't believe I was acting unprofessionally, I am sorry you disagree because I respect your opinion.

I am not on a high horse but replying to posts on this and other like forums takes time. When I was learning I was more grateful for the help I received and clearly stated my questions. I have noticed a change in the users that visit this forum and the NG, perhaps it is me who should stop visiting..

As I had already investigated a solution to this problem and was unable to find one, I came here hoping that someone may be able to help as there are people that are more knowledgable that I out there. Unfortunately some people think that people just post on sites such as Eng-Tips through laziness rather than through frustration at not being able to find the answer they seek elsewhere. Of course if answers to questions like mine were easy to find, this board would not have a reason for being.
