How do attributes (properties) work in SE?

How does SE handle part/assembly/drawing 'attributes' (like part number, part name, vendor, etc.)? Is it like SWX and IV--through file properties? I've tried to research this myself a bit & can't find much--maybe I'm using the wrong terminology.

Solid Edge uses File Properties as well. These properties can be used for Parts lists, filling up Title Blocks, other annotations and Searches. Also, Solid Edge allows you to create as many custom properties as wanted.

Start with a small (few component) assembly. Pick a a part from the ASM and right-click to open it in par (open in solid edge part). Once inside the part, go to [File]>[File Properties] and go to the "summary" tab.

Take detailed note of the _names_ of the blanks you can fill in. These are your standard "attribute" like info fields you can input. Note also what you see when you open the "custom" tab. These will be where you can add custom items. More on that later.

Go back to the summary tab. Put something in the "title" blank. Go to the assembly, make a draft (drawing file) of the assembly. Use the parts-list/balloon command. Go to "columns" tab. notice that the items list is the same as the items list in "summary" back in the part's "file properties"! Finish the parts list command, with a parts list on the face of the drawing. The entry you put in "title" in the summary blank appears as the part title in the new parts list! Very cool.

If you decide to add "custom" items, just add the same word you named the custom entry (the category name you created, not the data you entered into it) to the colums list in your assembly dft. Set up things like column widths, etc, and then "experiment". You'll get there!

BTW- If you check "properties" of a component file (par)in Windows Explorer (any CURRENT VERSION), you can see AND EDIT the line entries you entered in [File]>[File-Properties]>[Summary tab] back when you were inside the part. Also pretty cool!
