How can i downlink weather information directly from satellite?

I am planing to do my final year project in getting weather information from satellite. Which type of dish antenna will i require and how should i go about it?

I think a 2 m parabolic antenna would do. Wheather reports may ba available over C band.
 
Doesn't require a dish - it can be a lot simpler.

Do a search on "137 MHz Weather":


I believe that it is getting common to use a PC and its sound card to decode the signal. Add "sound card" to the search:


Of course, if you make it too easy a project (all the bits from Radio Shack, simply connected together, plus a bit of freeware), then you'll get a lousy mark...
 
Lat I heard was that Noaa was going to start encrypting its images and charging for decoder units.
I am not sure if this has happened yet.
